What You Should Know About Pyometra in a Dog

Sometimes pets can suffer from an illness as well. It can be really painful to watch your dog struggling with a specific health issue. Some of them can be treated and cured, but others can’t. That’s why, your pet needs to maintain a healthy regime to prevent such illness from occurring.

With a healthy diet and lots of activity, your dog will be in perfect condition. Also, if you notice that your furry friend isn’t well, you should schedule an appointment with a vet. After thorough examination, a vet will be able to tell you the cause of the problem.

How can you tell whether your pet has a medical problem? Well, pets don’t have the ability to express themselves, but they can show it to their owners. If you notice that your furry friend is detached, unfriendly, passive and even aggressive for no reason, this means that something is clearly bothering it.

Speaking of medical problems that can affect pets, you have probably heard of pyometra. Read more on this page. If you haven’t, then there are a lot of things you need to be aware of. Any guardian that has a female dog should be aware of this condition.

What exactly is pyometra?

If not treated, it can become a life-threatening illness. as mentioned above, it occurs in female dogs because they have a uterus. More precisely “pyo” means pus, and “metra” means uterus. An infection can develop in the uterus of female canines because of a hormonal change. This medical condition usually targets older dogs. However, you should take action immediately if you want your furry friend to survive.

If not treated right away, the puss and the toxins can start to affect the bloodstream. This will make your dog feel sick. It will only get worse from there if a vet doesn’t do something about it. As you can see, it is a terrible medical condition that shouldn’t be left to go away on its own.

There are two types of pyometra, open and closed. If your dog is diagnosed with the first one, then the pus will more likely exit the vagina. It will drain from the uterus in the form of a smelly liquid. As for closed pyometra, the pus remains inside the body because the cervix is closed. This is more serious than the first condition because the toxins remain inside the body.

Are there any treatments?

One of the treatments recommended for this disease is CBD oil. Of course, you should also make sure that your furry friend eats meals rich in vitamin C, turmeric and Manuka honey. The CBD oil is great against pain and inflammations. It will be able to minimize them, if not reduce them altogether.

Despite the controversy surrounding it, it won’t get your dog “high.” Check out this link for additional information https://pethempcompany.com/blogs/issues/hemp-oil-for-dogs-with-pyometra.

What are the symptoms?

Many canines with this particular disease don’t experience symptoms, at least not in the early stage of the illness. the only thing that can give you a hint whether your dog is developing the disease is a slight vaginal discharge.

You should monitor your dog carefully, especially if it isn’t spayed. Another symptom that may occur is an enlarged and painful abdomen. If you notice that your pet’s belly is larger than usual, it is best to have it checked out by a medical professional.

How to prevent it?

The most effective way of preventing this type of medical condition from affecting your dog is through spaying. This way, the ovaries from your furry friend will be removed surgically. Sometimes even the uterus is removed if the owners wishes it.

If you don’t plan on taking care of smaller pups, it is best to have this procedure performed on your pet. It is best to do this when you dog is in perfectly good health. If you wait and your pet gets diagnosed with it, it will only complicate things more.

For any additional questions and doubts, you should definitely consult with a medical expert. They will advise you on what’s best for your furry friend.
